The ship was not berthing in that place. Even if on the news the tendency is to say that there was a collision with the river cruise ship, it seems that the ship's controls were not under real control and one engine telegraph was blocked to increase ahead thrust. What we can learn from this situation is that the tugs have been not effective, the anchor port side dropped has been not effective, the so much famous expression "ships can't go against something in the historic city center because of shallow waters" has been not true. Because this accident is looking a copy of what happened to MSC SINFONIA in Honduras, has MSC a problem with hackers that can control from remote something?

Note also that the river cruise ship involved is RIVER COUNTESS, not MICHELANGELO.

Ciao Federico,

You are right, the river vessel involved in this incident is indeed the 'River Countess', not the 'Michelangelo' as the early morning news reported.

The 'River Countess' (ENI: 07001802, MMSI: 244780776) is also covered at the site. For those interested, please visit the webpage below:

Saluti,

Jose
