Quebec Ferry Corporation (Société des traversiers du Québec) has replaced the old Camille Marcoux (IMO 7343578) ferry by a brand new named F.A. Gauthier (IMO 9669861). Since the time she entered in service, she had several failures and sailing cancellations. She's currently out of service for months to fix her propeller issues. Quebec Ferry Corporation has bought the old St. Barbe, Newfoundland to Blanc Sablon ferry Apollo (IMO 7006314) as a temporary replacement. A few days after Apollo entered in service, she rammed a dock infrastructure and suffered damages to her bow/door. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) declared the ship to be potentially unseaworthy after carrying out a visual inspection and the Quebec Ferry Corporation decided not to make any more spending on that ship. They would rather bring a CTMA ferry from Magdalen Islands, continue their air shuttle and ask nearby private operators to start their summer season earlier and wish FA Gauthier to come back the sooner the better.
Is anyone knows how bad/good (seaworthiness, safety) was Apollo when the province of Quebec has bought her? Did they bought the first ferry they found as it without paying attention to her condition or the old operator just pushed her to the first willing sucker and ripped off Quebec Ferry? Also, is it just me or they could find a better ferry for a short team lease, if they were looking further around?https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/apollo-ferry-taken-out-of-service-by-ferry-corporation-quebec-1.5062691
