Amsterdam-Hook of Holland
« on: February 11, 2019, 10:37:08 PM »
Hi,

I'm thinking of planning a trip to Hook of Holland in March and will be flying into Amsterdam.  Last September I was there and there was no rail connection from the Hook as the new metro was being built.

Could anyone advise me if this has now been completed and confirm that rail or metro connections with the Hook are now available, normal circumstances permitting, please?

Many thanks for your help,

Best regards

No, the rail connection is still not working. The latest date given now is April. I'll double check this information in the morning.

Hi Tom
the latest updates are saying end of April. But this may not be the case. All information we're getting no longer have dates on them. So don't hold your breath.
About the buses, one of them, the 711 goes from Schiadam straight to the Hook. This takes about 20 minutes.
The other one, the 713 goes to all the other stations on route, and takes about an hour. Both services run frequently.
To and from Schiadam and Rotterdam is still by train.

Hope this helps.
Have a nice trip when you come to visit.
Hawkeye

Some information about Hoek van Holland: the sun is most of the day straight in your face and therefore it is difficult to make good pictures.
At Hoek van Holland you see all the vessels to Rotterdam area but not to Europoort. For the vessels bound for Europoort you need the walk to the end of the long mole. That is sometimes not possible with high tide and strong winds.
For vessels only to/from Rotterdam-area better stay at Maassluis and take the ferry to Rozenburg, just about one Euro for a pedestrian. On the other side the sun is at your back: better pictures.

Thanks for the advice, will probably change locations when there depending on what's moving and the weather/sun position.

Best regards

Tom
