Vessel identification
« on: May 30, 2018, 09:23:02 AM »
Good day,

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for help with identification of a particular vessel.

I took this picture in October 1999 in Saldanha Bay, South Africa and have since struggled to identify not only her details but also the function of this ship. It is possibly connected to diamond mining and De Beers. I have searched google and various shipping sites (including this one) but with no result. If anyone can help with ID I'd be most grateful.

Thanks Juergen, I have looked at photos of them all but none correspond. This might even be considered a barge?

Looking through the internet.
Perhaps is mining vessel Parfuri (IMO 8991102)

There is one picture here of Pafuri.
The midsection of the ship is quite simular.
There must be a lot modification on her. New bow and stern new accomodation.

She was aground in 2011 see:

very doubtfull if correct, but perhaps it brings someone in a right direction

It is not the vessel as I see now your picture was taken in 1999

Thanks everyone, it looks like the Louis.G. Murray is the closest. I found this picture of her (unknown date)very similar but with differently located and extra communications equipment. I suppose these could have been modified over the years.
