New Maersk v/l at Odense
« on: June 06, 2006, 03:12:23 AM »
Does anyone have any information regarding the latest ship under construction at Maersk's Odense shipyard? It is considerably larger than the last hull built.

Hi, The latest vessel is hull no. L207 and is due for delivery end of july.
Have a look at the picture taken by Skovgal below, she is defintely larger then the current "G" series vsls launched recently.

She seems considerably larger. However, the length of the bridge wings may deceive us a little bit, since it seems the body of the superstructure is somewhat slimmer than on the previous ships.

I look forward to seeing her float. I assume this page and www.jtashipphoto.dk are likely places to get pictures of her when launched.

Best regards
Mats

Hi Mats.

Yes jtashipphoto.dk will be on the place when the new (#L203) Leave the Odense Steelshipyard Lindo.
I live only 70 km from the yard and i will drive over there and sleep in my car to be the first to stand in the water at get photos of this "the BIG MAMA of containervessels"

Baselss rumour here says that she will be around 390m to 397 m in Length, and around 55m in width and around 22m depth, and from keel to mast around 70m.
My guess in my fantasy is that she maybe can carry around 13.000 - 14.000 Teu`s.

It did only takes 8 weeks to build the hull, and that is more fast then some af the big shipyards in asia, fantastic work they make on Odense Steelshipyard Lindo.
Hope that this great and only newbuilding shipyard "in that size" here in Denmark will build many more ships in the future.
Will be on the spot and if i now the date i will post it in here if enyone will join me on the beach outside the Odense Steelshipyard Lindo.

Best regards

Hi all,

This is indeed a larger container vessel than the G-class of Maersk. The propeller shaft

Local news (www.fyens.dk) reports that firefighters worked all night from 20.00 till 9.00.

It still looks from the pictures at www.112-odense.dk that most of the deckhouse is destroyed. The bridge is definitely gone, but it looks like there where fires on the lower decks as well.

The engine casing seems to be damaged too.
This must delay her for sevaral month. Guess next delivery from the yard is going to bee the L-204   :-(

Had really been looking forward to see her leave.

Very sad to see, indeed! Hopefully they can use parts and modules destined for L204 on this one in stead, so that she will not be too much delayed.

According to a Danish newspaper, she is rumoured to be able to carry 22 containers across the deck. I believe the latest vessel, L202 "Georg M

It is in deed sad what happened to her...

The superstructure can be re-used or will they need to re-built it all over again?

Does she have only one propeller? A ship this size, wouldnt it be better if she has two propellers? Why do some ships have one while others have two or even three?

Kindest regards,
Pedro

The accomodation will probably be reused. The structure itself does not look too damaged.

Only one propeller. The reason? to cut maintenance, weight and expences.

I am not qualified for giving any long lecture on why. But you can be sure of that APM got its reasons to chose a single engine/prop instead of a twin screw.

The news from Maersk Lines' Western Operations Centre is that the predicted delay on delivering the vessel will be 6-8 weeks. As the L-203 phases into the AE1 service then the Axel Maersk will phase out.
