Coaster Rockville
« on: February 13, 2018, 04:36:31 PM »
: Hello

In 1953, the new owner of "Rockville"ex Wheatcrop-53, was John S. Monk Ltd Liverpool.
In 1936, in a local newspaper in Brittany, I read, a "Rockville" come in Roscoff harbour to load vegetables, but nothing in Lloyd'Register of 1937 or before, only an american barge, certainly no connection.
In the same year 1936, "Sprayville" and "Clara Monks", owner John S. Monk, was also calling at Roscoff port for the same reason.

Any informations about this myst

How many ships are you referring to?

You mention one "Rockville" dating from 1953, then you jump backwards to another "Rockville" in 1936. I'm not sure I understand your question.

Sorry,

I don't speak a good english like Yvon Perchoc.  :)

My request concern the "Rockville "1936. She is probably  near the same deadweight and lenght than the
Sprayville of the same company because the Sprayville load the same quantity of cargo.
The port of unload was Weymouth.

Hello Yvon (2)

John Monks owned another Rockville that was built in 1922 as Orenie and became Rockville in 1932. Her official number was 1144725 and she was broken up in 1952. I think it will be difficult to locate a photo of this earlier vessel but I shall try.

It would seem quite likely that this was the vessel that visited Britanny in the 30's.

Thank you Bjorn, but this is not the good one, John S MONKS purchase her in 1953 and my research concern
the Rockville who visit Roscoff harbour at least in 1936 and perhaps more.
In the moment I am listening all the coasters calling my town to load vegetables before WWII.

Yes Neil, that is correct, she is probably the good ship.

A picture would be appreciated, but I think, that would be very difficult.

After your informations, I found, in Marine News, Rockville was scrapped at Birkenhead.

Thank you again for help.

I hope also could help people in the future on the forum.

Would just like to point out that the PWR posting of the ROCKVILLE (photo : C Hill) on this website has been given an incorrect caption by admin. I have added a note to that page with more info.
