We really need a second coastal container vessel. We have just had the Kwangtung loading empty Wilson Cement containers in Lyttelton for Marsden Point. She then loaded 217 full Wilson Cement containers at Marsden Point and is unloading them in Auckland. She will then go out to anchor and the Shengking, which unloaded her Asian cargo and went to anchor will come back in and load the containers and take them to the South Island. The Kwangtung will then come back in again to complete discharge of her Asian cargo.
Really  Huh Huh Huh

Hi Simon
In a NZ Marine News article it stated the dredger Pelican was broken up on the Hastings River after being towed from Nelson. A shame this excellent source of info will soon be lost to us with the winding up of the NZ Ship & Marine Soc.

The "Melanesian Chief" and "Carmen" are both underway off Gt Barrier Island. They have been going around in "triangles". Why do vessels do this rather than going to anchor?

Re the dredger PELICAN, from the Birdon Marine Facebook page is the attached photo dated late-November 2018 showing hull of PELICAN still intact at their Port Macquarie, NSW, shipyard but missing all main deck and superstructure. Birdon are quoted on the page in reply to a query as "The plan is to refurbish the vessel at some point in the future." Thanks and acknowledgements to Birdon for this. RESIZED photo down.

What's happening with the Wilhelmsen vessels? The Carmen is back in Auckland and has been at Captain Cook Wharf since 20 December. She is to move to Jellicoe on 29th to make way for Golden Princess, then Bledisloe on 31st, and then possibly back to Captain Cook on 2 January.
In the mean time Tamesis that arrived in Auckland on 21 December and left on 24 December is now off the Port of Tauranga. The schedule says she may berth in Brisbane on 31 December.

Port of Auckland now has the Carmen in port until at least 19 January.
Morning Lynn berthed at midday. It is now 5.30pm and the ramp is still not down, but they do have divers inspecting the hull. Heogh Transporter is due tomorrow and will go to anchor for fogging.

Capitaine Wallis is replacing Southern Tiare on the Auckland to Norfolk Island schedule.
Will she be doing coastal voyages for Pacifica between voyages to Norfolk Island?

Cruise ship Sea Princess left Auckland at 6pm last night heading for Brisbane. She got as far as Cape Reinga and turned around, and is now , at 9.15 am the next morning off Matauri Bay heading in the direction of Auckland.
Problem?
At 10.00 am she is heading into the Bay of Islands. Maybe a medical emergency.
She has left the Bay of Islands and has resumed her voyage to Brisbane.

Carmen has come in from anchorage to berth at Jellicoe Wharf. She has a departure date of "maybe" 21 January. The Parsifal is still at Bledisloe Wharf, but her ramp has still not come down. She "may" sail at 11pm tonight, but don't hold your breath.
These "stink bugs" are causing alot of headaches for importers and shipping companies.

Car carrier Parsifal left Auckland after discharge on 12 January. She has been off Great Barrier Island and Marine Traffic has her arriving back in Auckland on 19 January. Weird  Huh Huh
