The cruise ship Pacific Jewel sailed from Queens Wharf Auckland at 4pm 3 April. She didn't get far before being turned around and berthed again. She was due to go on a 4 day cruise to Napier so must be something major wrong with the ship.

May have been a medical emergency as she sailed again at 6pm.

The MSC Kia Ora is loading at Auckland today and will head to Singapore along with Frisia Aller and Malte Rambow. This will bring to an end MSC's dedicated TransTasman Kiwi service. It is being replaced as mentioned above by two new loops of the Capricorn service.

Due to the backlog of vehicle imports at the Port of Auckland, on the 17th and 18th April, there are five car carriers that want to berth at the same wharf. ;D

Things are getting worse. The Ports of Auckland website has the car carriers at anchor for more than a week. The Toreador and Hoegh Jeddah are down to be at anchor for ten days. I can't see these two shipping companies agreeing to that. :'(

Holcim NZ's cement carrier "Milburn Carrier II" is about to commence her final tour of duty around the traps before heading to pastures new.

As I type, she's en route from Nelson to Lyttelton - arriving this afternoon, after which her schedule reads:
Lyttelton - dep 1730/15
Timaru - arr 0600/16, dep 0730/18
Wellington - arr 0730/19, dep 1730/22
Nelson - arr 0530/23, dep 1730/23
Dunedin - arr 0800/25, dep 2230/25
Lyttelton - arr 1500/26, dep 0930/29, ending a 30-year career on the NZ coast.

Wish she could call at my home port of Onehunga again one last time, but Ports of Auckland put the skids on that prospect sixteen months ago. :-(

As the MC2 sets sail from Lyttelton, at the same time a little further down the coast, "Buffalo" will be embarking on her maiden cargo-carrying voyage from Timaru, destinations Wellington and Lyttelton. Arrives in the capital on April 30.

Cheers,

JR

Car carriers in Port at Auckland are Trans Future 5 ETD 18 April approx, and Glovis Caravel ETD 21 April approx.

Vessels at anchor up to 21 April will be Adria Ace, Viking Amber, Trans Future 6, Palmela, Toreador, Hoegh Jeddah and Lake Taupo.

Other vessels are due to arrive after this date.

The Garnet Ace was also due to arrive, but I note she is sailing from Brisbane back to Japan, so maybe all NZ vehicles were offloaded in Brisbane for transhipment on a later vessel.

The first vessel to use Auckland's new Fergusson Container Terminal north wharf is......car carrier Trans Future 7. She came in with 3 pilots on board for orientation on berthing at the new wharf. Very smooth, no problems.

Thanks for the info, Brent.

"Milburn Carrier II" has since reached Dunedin, and sails from there at 0030 on Saturday, arriving at Lyttelton at 1600 same day.

On Tuesday, she departs for Wellington at 1200, arriving there some time on Thursday sporting a new name - "NACC Milburn".

It would appear she's been acquired as a going concern by NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers, about whom more at www.novaalgomacc.com

Currently set to depart on Friday - no times listed for her final arrival in or departure from Wellington.

Cheers,

JR

By today, Saturday there will be eight car carriers unloading, or at anchor waiting to unload at Port of Auckland. They are Palmela and Lake Taupo unloading, Brooklands and Trans Future 7 being fumigated in port. At anchor are Dream Jasmine and Toreador. Due today to anchor are Parsifal and Hoegh Jeddah.

Apparently MP The Belichick will not be entering service on the ANZEX schedule. She has been replaced by Thuringia IMO 9238765.

Hi all,

The now reflagged - Panama - and renamed "NACC Milburn Carrier" won't be leaving Lyttelton until 1200 Thursday, arriving Wellington some time on Friday.

Cheers,

JR
