Arabic help needed
« on: September 05, 2017, 08:26:37 PM »
Can any members assist with names of vessels in Arabic?  It would be a pity to lose some interesting images because we cannot make out the name.

For example, a set of photos of Egyptian ferries on the Suez Canal show no usable ID in western alphabets.  It may be that the Arabic inscriptions are the operator rather than the name, but it would be helpful to know!

So, who can help?  Or know someone else who can?

Thanks Husni.  You are a star!

Only to note that digits do not reverse.  The number in this one is eight hundred and eighty two

Yes Husni, of course your teachers got it just right.
And that applies to numbers too, but eastern Arabic is much more logical than the western way as you start with the unit, then the tens, then the hundreds etc.
so in this example in right-to-left-reading Arabic it is "two + eighty + eight hundred"

Whats wrong with this forum post?
It takes ages to open, a couple of minutes and I get a status "connecting"

Only this post, all others open as usual. Tried this one a few times and always the same.
