Tanker "Arsland" aground on the Thames
« on: August 16, 2017, 06:57:49 PM »
The tanker "Arsland" has lost steering/engines and has gone aground at Broadness on the Thames after leaving Jurgens Jetty at Purfleet. Tugs Svitzer Bootle, Svitzer London and Svitzer Madeleine in attendance. Sonar reading's being carried out to ensure there's no damage to tanks/hull.

2011 - AIS shows vessel now back into the channel...not quite on the scale of the CSCL Jupiter but at least another happy ending (although listening in to London VTS conversation with the captain I'm not sure he's happy with how things were dealt with!)

Vessel being tug escorted out at the moment to the redundant Tilbury Power Station jetty pending the next move.

I appreciate there's never a good time to go aground but I suppose 10 minutes before high water is about as good as you could hope for. Vessel now alongside Tilbury Power Station (2135 local time).

I bet VTS and the tug crews had a whale of a time calling "ARSLAND" over the radio...

(Ok, I'm childish....)  ;D

Coincidentally,  ARSLAND  was passed  this morning by the dry cargo vessel ARSLAN 1!
(Not at all childish, Phil . . . just a bit lavatorial)

Morning all...I do like a bit of toilet humour  ;D ;D

Meanwhile the "Arsland" (cue the jokes again!) has just left Tilbury Power Station. And after being rescued by Svitzer Tugs on Wednesday evening the escort to Canvey Island is being carried out by Kotugs "Zp Bear". There's gratitude for you!
