Ages ago (pre-digital) I went on a boat trip with the Port Authorities. The port area is vast, but activities were/are quite spread out. I cannot tell you how it would be when having to rely on shore based photography only.

Thanks pieter, maybe some of the local shipspotting members can shed some light on how to go about getting around the port
And also I wonder what ferries would be running from Constanta

Hi Peter
I was in Constanca in 2015 in the big DD area.  Opposite of the Dry dock areas is a former CASINO,, from there seemed to go a
public seawall a whole way towards the port entrance and passing a few piers and a repair area.
Also there are two or 3 light houses on the sea wall which seemed to be visited by peoples.
May be thats a good shot to explore. A good taxidriver should know how to get there. I you look on google earth you might be able to make out the area.

brgds
capt ted
NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!

Peter,

A search of the internet has thrown up many images of a very large and industrial port, from the images I looked at it seems public access is non-existent but that was just from the images - local knowledge is a wonderful thing!

This first one shows one (the only one?) tug berth, the 2 on the right look very familiar, an ex Tees and an ex Alexandra Towing - a former Sun?

The second image shows more of the breakwater but doesn't look pedestrian friendly! The photo's appear to have been taken from a cruise ship so maybe that's a clue that might give you public access?

Facinating research!

Regards

Andrew

The 'familar' tugs in the photo are the old YARM CROSS and SUN THAMES

Hi Andy , bob
Looks like I will approach the local tug company's first to see if I can get access to the port
I'm hoping that a few of our Romanian members may offer some assistance
As with all foreign ports , the best knowledge is held by the locals
Here hoping for a reply , but thanks for all the information
Kind regards
Peter

Hi Peter,

a solution could be this one if you can do it timewise  https://cruise.mano.co.il/Cruise/307
At least this would get you into the port for sure. Looking at some photos in google maps, there are gates at the entrance to the port which most probably prevent access to the breakwater from outside.
You may also try to see E. Evangelia when in the area http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2658323
Good success for your trip!

best regards,
Tim

I am living in Constanta (when not sailing), near lighthouse. What You want to see in pictures, more exactly?

http://www.panoramio.com/photo/46098591 http://www.panoramio.com/photo/117139393 mostly of them made in touristic Tomis harbor.
The port is huge, 135 berths, 64 km of quays and is not possible to catch all activities of one day. http://www.portofconstantza.com/apmc/portal/map.do?method=show
The access in port is free for personnel (ID card) but a fee of 5 euro per day for a car, does not matter if you have a job inside or not...
