Some weeks ago we considered the coverage of Museum Ships category, and noted that there was no FAQ guidance for members on what would be acceptable.  That has now been prepared and can be found in the "Category Site Standards and Guidance" section under the "Support" tab.

For convenience, it reads:
Category Limitation

Use this category for ships of all types that are preserved afloat or ashore for historical purposes and generally considered to be museums. They will usually be complete ships, though substantial part-ships are acceptable where that is the nature of the museum.

The existing specialist categories for decks and interiors, armaments, lifeboats, ships crests etc may also be used, but only in relation to what remains on the ship itself.

We do not accept ship equipment, armaments etc which are displayed separately whether indoors or in the open air, nor ship models.

Where a museum ship is in a fixed location that makes inclusion of the shole ship impossible, exceptions to the normal "whole ship" or "obstruction" general site standards may be relaxed, provided effort appears to have been made to minimise the faults.

Required Information

The information provided should follow that required generally, so far as practicable, as modified for the specific original ship type: for example military museum ships should follow the requirements for active military vessels; similarly with fishing vessels).

Additional information is always welcome on what can be seen and its interest, including the website of the museum ship.

This is broadly the approach that we have already been taking.  While this has been under consideration, the submissions of a few members have been held over where they do not meet the above criteria, pending this announcement. They will now be returned to category or deleted as appropriate.
