Which one is it?
« on: January 05, 2017, 09:19:38 AM »
Hi all,

I came across some photos of a research & survey vessel called "Altair", but found different IMO numbers with different members' photos.

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2510808

This one was built in 1962 in Germany and foundered last year (according to Miramar).

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=477245

Also built in 1962, but in the USA...

Can someone advise me which is the correct IMO number for this one?

Cheers,
Jens

I think that the IMO for the first picture of ALTAIR is the right one and the IMO for the second one belongs to the US built vessel with the IMO according to MarineTraffic. The two pictures show clearly the same vessel and it is an old vessel in German built style. Several other websites with photo

Hi all,

this time I got one from the archives (yes, actually it is).

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2596587

This one was posted with IMO number 5076157, but as a member pointed out in an error report, superstructure and gear of the two ships are quite different.

I searched Miramar and tried Google, but all I came up with was a Dimitris built in 1961 by Weser Seebeck in Bremerhaven which was renamed Baquir in 1970, in 1972 Hoogly, in 1974 Lok Adhar, in 1979 Varuna Adhar and which was scrapped in 1989 (this would at least match the name and year given in Paul's photo), but I found no photo of this one for comparison. The IMO number of this one was 5090127.

Does someone have an idea?

Cheers
Jens

Don't know why, but I was so focused on the name "Dimitris" that I didn't search for a photo under the other names ???

Looking good, I'd say.

Again a big thanks for the help! :)

Cheers
Jens
