Thanks for your prompt actions Owen, and thanks for the heads up Tony. I've fired off an email to the IP bods also. If we annoy them enough, some action may be taken.

Cheers,
tropic

Nice shot of the Nepean saltshaker too btw.

At least we now know the name of a person there, MARVIN, so we have a direct place to go.

Update, most of my photos have been removed I take it by the poster due to some of my comments on them.

The rest I have claimed copyright for and have demanded Instagram remove them, have had a email back stated various elements to allow them to proceed.

I have warned them that I believe 100% of the copyright violators postings are not his and they will be receiving more claims from members of this website.

I await their response but encourage others to go down this path to have their images removed from this rogue account. I have suggested that the account be closed.

Could one of those successfully dealing with Instagram/Facebook on this please post here a "pro-forma" text that should be sent by the copyright-holding member - and where it should be sent.

There are at least 6 other SS members (most of whom will probably not see this forum) whose photos have been posted on Nader Zahra's Facebook page in the last two weeks alone.  I am happy to PM them and point them here.

Hi David,

Here is the last communications between myself and Instagram  in full.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed explanation of what I need to do next. I am happy to see that already most of my photos have been deleted from the account of the copyright violator.
I presume he is fed up of my comments on them and has deleted them himself.

My name and address follow

Derek Sands
33 Portland Crescent,
Dovercourt,
Harwich,
Essex CO12 3QH
United Kingdom.

Phone 44 01255 507017

email [email protected]  or [email protected]

I am an amateur Ship photographer who has several photos published and used by shipping companies such as Rickmers.

I was also a long time Webmaster on the specialist site Shipspotting.com  which has over 2 million photos on.

My rights that have been violated is that my photos are being used without my permission and being claimed as the posters own work.

The basis for claiming legal rights is that I am the photographer of each of the images and these are my intellectual property.

Links for my photos which are still illegally on instagram posted by Nader Zahra

https://www.instagram.com/p/BOHo7f5htzF/?taken-by=nader_zahra&hl=en

and my photo posted on Shipspotting.com

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2583517

https://www.instagram.com/p/BM_kUOuBbtn/?taken-by=nader_zahra&hl=en

and my photo on Shipspotting.com

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2571006

There were at least another 10 images which have been recently removed.

However you will be receiving multiple copyright claims against this account as none of the photos are taken by the poster and most are copied from Shipspotting.co.
I will be contacting the owner of Shipspotting.com and the forum on the site contains already a thread pertaining to this multiple copyright violator. Members are being
advised to contact instagram direct.

I declare, under penalty of perjury, that all of the information contained in my notice is accurate and that the claimed use of my intellectual property described above, in the manner I have complained of, is not authorised by the rights owner, its agent or the law, and that I am the rights owner .

best regards

Derek Sands

Our Instagram poster hasn't removed anything but Instagram have removed 40 images so far.
I started by filling out their copyright violation form and had to supply links to the stolen images and corresponding links to the originals.
I'm waiting for them to remove another 36 more that I have supplied and I keep nagging them regarding their their statement about taking IP seriously and asking how much evidence I need to supply before they actually take appropriate action.
If they don't cancel his account and he keeps posting, I'll keep nagging them.

Question: when a photo is deleted from the Instagram a/c, does it also disappear from his Facebook page, or does Facebook have to be dealt with in parallel (even though they are the same business)?

I haven't approached Facebook yet or even looked at what he has there.
The simplest way to answer would be to compare the sites to see if the Facebook site has a lot of extra photos in about the first hundred.

Yes Owen, but I don't know what of yours has been deleted from Instagram.  Could you just walk through the relevant pages of https://www.facebook.com/nader.zahra.5
and see whether any of yours show up?
Most, if not all, of his latest ship photos there are from ShipSpotting.

OK David .. it looks like he has a different assortment on show at Facebook with some of the same images and some others.
But I see quite a few of mine and others that I've had deleted from Instagram are there

I have posted this message on his facebook page.

'Dear Sir, it has come to our attention that you are posting other people photographs of ships on both Facebook and Instagram. Actions are going on to block your Instagram account. If you don't want the same to happen to your facebook account, can you please remove all the images for whhich you do not hold the  copyright?
Thank you, on behalf of Shipspotting.com, Pieter Melissen"
