DWCC calculation
« on: December 20, 2016, 10:58:55 AM »
Hello,

For a research I'm looking for the total annual global Deadweight Cargo Capacity for bulk carriers. Now is that pretty hard to find but I did find the total annual global Deadweight Tonnage via UNCTAD statistics (for bulk carriers). I've been googling for a while now but couldn't find anything...

Is there any formula known to calculate DWCC from DWT for bulk carriers? Or an average percentage per ship size of the DWT that is DWCC?

Thanks in advance!!

Depends on the cargo type. These might help in general terms. http://me-freight.com/pages/shipowners-costs-calculation.html - second paragraph and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stowage_factor

Thanks a lot Chas!

I'll try to define it a bit more. I'm looking for a 'proxy' that would tell me what percentage of a dry bulk carriers' Deadweight tonnage is usually used for cargo. Something like this:

DWCC = a + b * DWT

DWCC = Deadweight Cargo Capacity [metric Tonnage]
a = certain weight (which might be zero) [metric Tonnage]
b = proxy (0<b<1)
DWT = Deadweight Tonnage [metric Tonnage]

In this formula I'm looking for the value 'b'.

I do understand that these values will probably be quite different per ship size (Handysize, Panamax, etc).
