Report it to them and let them know they are stolen.

just add a comment to his photos: "stop posting MY photos from Shipspotting.com".
I just made a Instagram profile to do so.

If you go to "my photos" on this site, you will find the option: settings. If you click that you can tick a box where it is stated that you do not allow your pictures to be uploaded externally, including as thumbnails. This should work I think.

Pieter, that only concerns thumbnails, Not uploading your photo externally (without permission)
Thumbnails redirect to the photo on Shipspotting.

Ah I see, only the sites like Marine Connector will be excluded. But the shot has then to be actually downloaded and reposted by the people who steal it. On the other hand, getting concerned about copyright is ok, but by posting here the door to infringment is open widely... and uncontrollable.

Stan, I'm afraid just adding a comment won't stop it.

Instagram allows you to filter comments by keywords (which you can also define to your personal taste like... hm... "posting", "my" and "photos") ;)
Such filtered comments are then hidden from the public eye.

Reporting a copyright infringement to Instagram isn't easy either. In the contact sheet you have to give your full name, home address, telephone number and email address. What bothers me is that they furthermore say:

"Please be aware, that on a regular basis we are giving your contact information to the person who uploaded the content you are reporting, including name and email address (...) and/or the content of your report."

I really don't know why the person I am reporting should have this data when I have nothing more than a user name...

Well I guess Shipspotting.com has to take some action.

I've checked the thieving site, and only found couple of my pictures... :-[ Disappointed!

But I've found one my photo in the latest issue of a little known magazine by the name "Ships Monthly", with the source taken from god knows where. E-mailed them, asked to at least confess that they've taken the picture from shipspotting.com; so far, silence.  ;D

I found about a dozen of my pics on there but in most cases it was only part of the ship. I am devastated to discover that the thieving rat (their name Zahra Nader and some non-ship photos posted suggest that it is a woman with Egyptian connections) didn't like like my pics enough to show the whole ship!!!!

No, Bob, that's Instagram's feature: all photos are squares, so remainders get clipped off... :)

Just to note that I have moved the discussion of the copyright marking of all SS images to a new thread:
