Mv Ben Varrey (imo 8507365)
« on: October 02, 2016, 05:32:55 PM »
I see the Mv Ben Varrey (imo 8507365) remains alongside at a Rotterdam repair yard a while now post dry dock.

Any news if laid up or more serious repairs?

Thanks

Wonder if she is a sale like her fleet mates Swift & Martin or just poor state of the market?

A few photos indicate repairs are on going.......

Absolute Shipping's latest online all-British fleetlist includes BEN VARREY, but is dated August.
In September, BEN VARREY changed to Panama flag (c/s HO8517, MMSI 354011000).  I wonder whether she has been sold?

I see recently her fleet mate Ben Maye (Imo 7726861) has arrived Rotterdam region away from her usual Irish Sea / West Coast Scotland trading.

Wonder if a dry docking or a further fleet sale / lay up from Absolute Shipping?

Mv Eagle, Falcon and Pluto continue to trade as usual.

Thanks David for the information, I wonder if they are making the most of cheap 2nd hand tonnage and renewing fleet with some similar sized vessels in the 2000-3000dwt region??

I think that's highly unlikely, the fleet has diminished down to just 4 vessels (Falcon, Eagle, Pluto and Ben Maye)

Swift and Martin were sold earlier in the year to be converted for fish farm use.

Indeed your likely correct. A shame to see small UK owners fleets shrinking but in this tough market measures clearly need to be taken. I'm sure there will be a switch to time chartering tonnage over owning and running!

Its certainly a very tough situation out there for owners, look at the collapse of Hanjin.  Just this week we hear that Flinter and Abis are in trouble with most of the fleet now laid up :-(

We've Flinters Sky, Spirit, America and Arctic, as well as Gerarda, laid up awaiting sale just along the road from the office here in Capelle a/d IJssel. Flinterbothnia, Ben Varrey and Ben Maye are just across on the south bank of the Maas.

I understand it's the latter, sadly. Falcon and Eagle have reportedly gone to Turkish interests, working the Falcon presently for a short intra-North Sea cargo.
