What next for Hanjin?
« on: August 30, 2016, 11:36:24 PM »
A lot (most) shipping info sites reported today that KDB (Korean Development Bank) stopped the financial support for Hanjin (the container shipping part).

This means a very tough time for Hanjin and potential court receivership i.e. bankruptcy.

Cheers,
Roy

Just read on BBC that they are filing for receivership http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37241727
Any thoughts? Is it at least partially a result of building so many huge container ships?

Korea Development Bank stated Hanjin's debt stood at $5.5 billion at the end of June (Financial Times 31/8/2016)
Meanwhile Hanjin own 63 vessels (trading ships and newbuilding contracts), estimated worth today $1.7 billion dollars (from vesselsvalue.com)

There's a useful tool to track where the Hanjin ships are at
