Whilst looking for the register, (which I am still trying to find), I came across this document from the Smart Rivers 2011 Conference...

Hi Brian,

Interesting information, I did arrange with Henrik for this ENI box to be set up but sadly it is not used as well as it should be, most Inland Vessels do display the ENI number, often quite prominently, so there is really no excuse for not adding it, hopefully when doing a Rhine Trip or whatever members will bear this in mind, they are all searchable in the same way as the IMO number.

Kind regards
Ken

Hi Brian,

here's a direct link to Binnenschifferforum's register, you can use it without registration

Hi Jens, I hope you are keeping well... thanks for the link. I have been looking at this http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=412153 and it has all the makings of a European Inland Vessel having been converted for 'other use'.

I believe that the ENI register is not available online or in ather form.  Enthusiast sites, like the one noted by Jens, though there are others in Netherlands, France etc seem to be the only sources.

@Brian.  Some details of the floating restaurant OCEANDER with the later pictures at Valencia, eg

Thanks David, This site, http://www.debinnenvaart.nl/schepen_a_z/A/1/order=BDT_Name;ASC/ is very good, but not necessarily comprehensive...

Hi all, I would like to add some additional websites for those interested. This French site offers a lot of information about French and Belgian vessels, so have a look here www.vagus-vagrant.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=599&t=12409 , another excellent database for more than 18.000 inland vessels is the Dutch site www.binnenvaart.eu where in most cases you will find many details of a certain vessel. I agree with Ken concerning the ENI numbers, please add this number when posting an inland vessel so that the changes and history of a particular vessel are reflected. Since April 2007 this individual number doesn't change anymore when a vessel is sold to another country, which is certainly a big improvement.

Best regards Hans

It was mentioned here that ENI number was searchable on the site, but the function is not implemented fully.

ENI number on the page is not "clickable";  ENI number entered in the "Search" field produces no results.

At the same time, vessels are obviously grouped according to their ENI number, showing various photos of the same ship with the same ENI number, but the photo page does not have the same "More of this ship" tab with photos, like the pages of ships with IMO numbers.

Much of that is correct Vlad.
At present the search is via Advanced Search button
http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo-search.php
We can search in the same way as for Pennant Numbers on warships.

IMO numbers are a bit different as they have always been unique numbers, issued by a single authority and staying for the life of the ship. On the other hand, ENI numbers have not been life-long until quite recently.  ENI numbers begin with a country code (3 digits) and originally a completely new number was issued on change of flag.  I understand that that has now changed and that a number is still issued to a new vessel with the relevant initial country code, but on subsequent transfer of flag the whole number no longer changes.
