Problems with Mobile Device Usage of Website
« on: July 08, 2016, 01:37:13 PM »
While I understand that advertisements are necessary for the continued functioning of this website, they are making it impossible to use on a mobile device.  Whenever I load the website on my mobile device (an I-Phone 6-S) there are multiple ads that pop up and change the web address without prompting.  This happens regardless of me trying to sign in or not.  These ads will not allow you to go to the pictures or use the web site at all.  This is NOT happening with any other web sites I use on my mobile device, so I suspect this is specific to Shipspotting.com.
Is there any way to not have ads that take you too another web site?
Thanks!!!
Steven Collingwood

I have no idea whether a ad-blocker can work on an iPhone (others will no doubt advise).

In the last few days I have been away and using a different laptop and suffered a similar problem with roll-over ads - in my case from the insurers AXA - which now seem to cancel out the "previous page" in the browser and have no exit button, so even more difficult to get out of.  It is this type of ad that pushed me to instal an ad-blocker, and now they are even worse.

This problem  seems to have been reported to webmaster and IT already, see
http://forum.shipspotting.com/index.php/topic,14862.0.html

As it looks like it's only affecting IOS/Safari and only Shipspotting.com.

Cheers,
Jens

Thanks Jens
I suspect that this is all the same problem of accidental roll-overs (which is why it is intermittent)
My experience was on Windows10/Firefox

I am experiencing exact same situation as Steven77. Tried resetting device / deleting history, etc.  thinking a refresh might fix. But, that didn't work...  ???

Hi All,

Henrik has informed me that the problem with mobile devices should now have been solved.

I now have no problem with either my iPad/Phone hopefully everybody else has the same outcome.

Kind regards
Derek

It may be that this problem is now re occurring. Last night I was redirected through a few websites, as seen by a rapidly changing address bar, then it settled on a "junk" site. This was offering some free wonderfull deal? I went off elsewhere for a while looking at other sites, thinking Shippspoting would be down for a while, but returned a while later to find things back to normal. This morning a similar thing happened but I went onto another site and then back to shipspotting to find things apparently normal again. Am I the only one having this problem? I am using an iPad and Safari, all up to date.

Hi John,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I'm experiencing the same problem also.

I sincerely apologise for this problem happening again and any trouble and or inconvenience this has caused. I will let our I.T. tech, Henrik know - hopefully it's an easy fix. I will keep you updated.

Best Regards
Cody

 :(
I had the same problem with an iPad today. The site was replaced by a wheel offering me the "chance" to win an iPhone. Tried several times, same result. Meanwhile, I installed iOS 9.3.4 and I was able to load the site. It works and I hope il will remain like that.
