"He feels unsafe": Crew refuse to leave Glastone HarbourA STALEMATE between a captain and his crew over safety on board the cape vessel Kanaris has grounded the ship in Gladstone Harbour for now.
International Transport Workers' Federation national coordinator Dean Summers said talks were underway to settle down the Filipino crew, but they didn't want to sail because they believe the captain is unsafe.
But the captain too is reportedly refusing to sail unless he gets private security.
"He feels unsafe," Mr Summers added.
One of the Filipino crew members died when the vessel was about 260 miles off the coast of Papua New Guinea.
It is believed the crew member was hit by a pulley in the head and died a short while after being hit.
His body was removed from the ship in Papua New Guinea and the Kanaris continued on to Gladstone.
Mr Summers said the crew were left traumatised.
"It was a grisly industrial accident, " he said.
