UK-built ships in recent decades?
« on: January 07, 2016, 07:11:37 PM »
I wonder, are there any short-sea general cargo ships that were built in UK in the past 15-20 years? I notice it's mostly Chinese, Dutch & German built ones, but if it's about UK, those are mostly from the 80s & earlier.
Regards,
Denis

Hi Denis,

I know one because it happened to sail in front of my camera:

Scot Ranger, IMO 9138769,  built 1997

kind regards,
Jens

The Scot Ranger was built by the Yorkshire Drydock Company in Hull. The same yard built all of the "Hoo" boats in the 80s and a few larger variants in the early 90s but the yard has long since closed as have all others in the same field of work.

I think that Jens has indeed the last one with SCOT RANGER (ignoring one or two local or estuarial vessels).  Only these since 1990:

SCOT RANGER (IMO 9138769 - Yorkshire DD 1997)
ARKLOW BRIDGE (IMO 9101546 - Appledore 1996) now CSL CLYDE
ARKLOW BROOK (IMO 9101534 - Appledore 1995) now ROSE BROOK
SEA RUHR (IMO 9111553 - Yorkshire DD 1995) now CMS DENIZ
SEA RHONE (IMO 9111541 - Yorkshire DD 1995) now CMS SHAH
HOO KESTREL (IMO 9006459 - Yorkshire DD 1993) now SEA KESTREL
HOO LARCH (IMO 9006447 - Yorkshire DD 1992) now SEA RUBY
BOWCLIFFE (IMO 9006435 - Yorkshire DD 1992) now EAGLE
TORRENT (IMO 9015929 - Yorkshire DD 1992) now EEMS DELTA
HOO FALCON (IMO 9006423 - Yorkshire DD 1991) now FALCON
UNION SATURN/TIMA SATURN (IMO 8903038 - Cochrane 1991) now NOVA
NORTH SEA TRADER (IMO 9011961 - Cochrane 1991) now NEPTUNE
SHORT SEA TRADER (IMO 8903064 - Cochrane 1991) now SATURN
SUPERIORITY (IMO 8903052 - Cochrane 1991) now LADY ARZU
SENIORITY (IMO 9005467 - Appledore 1991) now QUANTUM
ANNA MARIA (IMO 9002453 - Yorkshire DD 1991) now EAST BLACKSEA

Of course, Appledore is still in business, but unlikely to build more of this type.

Thanks for the replies - this explains why I couldn't remember anything newer than that SCOT RANGER.
