Edmund Fitzgerald model?
« on: January 07, 2016, 12:36:16 AM »
I have looked online multiple times, but have been unable to ever find a GOOD model of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, a 792 ft long ore carrier that sank in a storm on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975. Does anyone know where to find a decent model or any kits that could be easily modified?

The modelmakers in Guandong whom I work with, would not have any problem to built this replica.
Price is pending the required size and numbers.

One of my favourite subjects also ...

I know three sources for models:

- a paper model from jsc in 1:400 scale, not very detailed and a waterline model
- there are manufacturers in the us and in canada who produce mainly waterline models in 1:87 scale (H0 Gauge) and perhaps 1:160 scale (N Gauge) of lakers which can be modified to represent the Edmund Fitzgerald - if you are interested in that, I can check with my library for adresses
- I see handcrafted models on ebay every once in a while - perhaps from the source Nico Ros mentioned

Best regards,

Michael.

I am also interested in a 1:250 waterline-papermodel, but I have no drawings to design one. Can anybody support drawings?

I finally found the manufacturer of the models of great lakes frighters that I mentioned:

http://www.bearcomarine.com/plastic.htm

A plastic model of the Edmund Fitzgerald is also available in 1:87 scale and blueprints of the ship are available.

The 1:400 paper model is not very detailed and if scaled up to 1:250 may be useful as a base for a model but will require a lot of scratchbuilding.

Best regards,

Michael.
