Sorry mate but you make it sound like it was the BOW BELLES fault.
Captain Henderson was or was never blamed (as far as i know) anyway i am biassed as i  knew "dougie" and even though his masters ticket was never revoked it ruined his carer and he lost all his confidence, he went through hell.
just thought id mention it....

Hi

I was at the launch of the Bowbelle and on her maiden voyage to London and on the fore-castle when she swung in the pool of London and the port and starboard anchors didn't let go fully and jammed as she headed for Tower Pier!!!

She was light, and full astern saved it. I was looking over the bow and she shuddered to a stop and started to go astern less than 5 feet from Tower Pier!. If She hadn't, all of the dignatories would have been in the Thames, or worse. I thought she was going to shake to pieces.  I have never felt a ship that size shake like that before or since.

Anyway she was a fine ship and it was great to see the posting of the Ailsa guy who was part of the build team. You did a great job.

Anyone know if any of the 'Bow' dredgers are still afloat?

PB

Bowbelle - Sold to maderia , renamed the Bom Rei - Sunk off Maderia - Dredge pipe left down during a turn as far as i know and ruptured her side pump room flooded - 2 crew members lost.

Bow prince - also in maderia,
Also Bow Steam in maderia.

Ill get all the correct deails in a few days and repost !
