The World War II era U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Mackinaw
(WAGB-83) is currently in Toledo, Ohio on its fairwell tour before decommissioning in June, 2006. Perhaps the most respected vessel currently in operation on North America's Great Lakes, the Mackinaw was built in 1944 and has been an ice breaking institution over its 60+ year career. It will be replaced this summer by a smaller vessel with the same name which is currently undergoing sea trials--although Great Lake ship enthusiasts agree that the Big Mack will never be replaced.
On Monday, April 15 the Mackinaw will visit Cleveland, Ohio.
