MArinetraffic ship Itineraries accuracy
« on: October 27, 2015, 12:05:45 PM »
Hello.

this is example link which i found on marinetraffic

http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/index/itineraries/all/shipid:468095/mmsi:376566000/shipname:TRANSMAR/_:ea94b0848399fca40e22b616797c03df/per_page:20

as you can see this ship is very big. But Itineraries page says this ship departure and arrive to same port in minutes

TRANSMAR 2015-10-24 20:18 Arrival   TARTOUS
TRANSMAR 2015-10-24 20:12 Departure   TARTOUS

TRANSMAR 2015-10-24 15:18 Arrival   TARTOUS
TRANSMAR 2015-10-24 15:14 Departure   TARTOUS

TRANSMAR 2015-10-24 13:51 Arrival   TARTOUS
TRANSMAR 2015-10-24 12:43 Departure   TARTOUS

what is marinetraffic accuracy?
how big ships can do that.
How departure and arrive can be to same port
How departure and arrive can being in minutes (if ship is small or smaller its can)

thanks inadvance

Whilst AIS data can be useful, no matter who provides it, it is not authoritative and should never be treated as such. Anomalies and inconsistencies are not uncommon in Marine Traffic and other AIS websites. They should probably be ignored.

The same happens on the Humber with vessels passing Immingham being reported as arriving and departing same.

Hi,

I have often seen containerships listed with times for Hansweert, these times are also close together and merely indicate that the ship, usually in transit from Antwerp, passed that point on the Schelde at that time.

Best regards

Tom
