A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker caught fire after it collided with a container ship near Port of Tanjung Perak, Indonesia, on 28 June.

Indonesia-flagged, 2008-built LPG tanker Navigator Aries was leaving Tanjung Perak port after discharging its cargo when it collided with Panama-flagged, 33,423 dwt container ship Leo Perdana, which was approaching the port, at 23:20 h local time.

The impact of the collision caused the 23,333 dwt Navigator Aries to catch fire. The fire was put out by four tugboats. The tanker also suffered a gash of about 5 m to its port-side hull and is currently anchored close to the scene of incident.

Leo Perdana sustained damage to its bulbous blow and is berthed at the Tanjung Perak port.

No one was injured in the incident.

In a separate incident, general cargo ship Meratus Sumbawa 1 caught fire while anchored off Madura Island, Indonesia, at 19:00 h local time on 29 June. The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the engine room.

The fire soon spread to the ship deck, but all 19 crew members of the vessel were evacuated by vessels passing by the Jamuang reef. The fire was put out with the assistance from three tugboats.
