I have been looking up photos of the new builds from the list posted here and found several photos of the George Washington Bridge going back to July, 2005.  Thus it would appear that it is not a new build delivered in Feb 2006. Please understand that this is not a complaint or criticism; I like to find photos of the newest ships and put them in a separate file.  There is something special about them when in brand new paint.

Hi Magogman, i too have an interest in new ships and like to collect pics of them.

The George Washington Bridge was indeed launched in feb 2006, however there was a previous K line ship which sailed under this name up until the new vessel was launched.

The old George Washington Bridge is still sailing for K Line under the name of "West Gate Bridge" on K Line's JKOR1 service and this is the vsl in the pictures you mentioned.
vessel details are as follows;

IMO number: 8511184
Call sign: JKCF
Length: 242.65 m
Width: 32.20 m
Depth: 17.60 m
gross tonnage: 42000 ton
Nrt: 21308 ton
deadweight: 40928 ton
Capacity: 2508 teu
yard: Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd, Sakaide
yard number: 1401
year of building: 1986
Main engine: MAN-B&W 9L80MC
power: 23410 kW
max. speed: 22.4 knots

It is difficult too keep up with the constant name changes are container vessels! hope this helps

Thanks much for the prompt and detailed response.  I appreciate it.  Between my advanced senility and relative newness to ocean shipping I should have realized something like that had happened but then I didnt recognize the old GWBridge as an "old" ship.

All's well that ends well.  Its interesting how some of the new builds get on this site very quickly with several photos and others take quite a while to make it on.  Among other things its probably dependent on the geographic distribution of the photographers.

Apropos to almost nothing, I have driven over the George Washington Bridge and flown over it but never went under it on a ship.  My mother would never take us on a harbor cruise when we visited New York City which used to be quite the thing to do back in the 1950's and these days I avoid extremely large cities although some of the photos on this site are making me question that policy.

Thanks again for your info.
