On May 19, 2015, MS "Deutschland" (IMO 9141807) was handed over to her new owner at Gibraltar.

Her new owner is a US company with "relevant experience in the international cruise business" which paid more than € 13,7 Mio for the ship (€ 13,7 Mio was the current value of the ship estimated by international ship brokers). Further information will not be disclosed at the moment.

At the moment plans about her future service have not yet been revealed either. However media reports that she will become an accommodation vessel in Egypt are not true according to the administrator of "Deutschland" Investment company.

I'm curious who'll finally step forward as her new owner and what his plans are Smiley

Cheers,
Jens

I heard recently that her new owners had secured a short-term charter from Pullmantur for her.

The German tour and cruise operator PLANTOURS have chartered the former DEUTSCHLAND during June and July to cover for the HAMBURG that has gone to Lloyd Werft after an incident off Belfast last month, she is due to be handed over to Semester at Sea in late July and after a minor refit will enter service in September 2016.

World Odyssey (ex- Deutschland) will enter service with Semester at Sea in September 2015 - not 2016.

Thanks for the updates, guys. World Odyssey... something to get used to... I still remember that memorable day in August 2012 when she arrived at Hamburg with the German team after the London Olympics.

Cheers,

As I understand it, the new vessel will continue the Semester at Sea cruise in September 2015 from Southampton, where the previous vessel was renamed.
