I have had an inquiry with regard to vessels discharging water from the anchor housing whilst in transit.
I am not too sure about this myself so could some knowledgeable member please enlighten me and others with an answer.

Kind Regards
Ken

Hi Ken, It just means that the crew have not turned off the cable washing hydrant. Kind regards, John

Generally to be seen on tankers when entering or leaving port, it is the discharge from the fire main which should always be primed and ready for use at such times. It's also handy for removing the gunk from the anchor cable after the vessel has hauled its anchor.

Hi,

The fire main is also commonly used for cooling of the mooring winch hydraulics, and the the hydrant for anchorwash is usually kept open to get a flow through the hydraulics cooler.
