Are there any rules/regulation/customs when naming a ship? Why do some ships have names like company name followed by a city name?

when giving names to new ships Mediteranska plovidba Korcula were to be called Korcula and Racisce but at the request of the charterer added Lady and are now Lady Korcula and Lady Racisce
