Looks like they make them more and more expensive or a heavy weight for the situation when HAPAG thinks again that they can take SUED over. The last try failed because the SUED does not want to be taken over or merged,,for good reason as far as I see it.
SUED never needed governmental help and HAPAG was at least 2 times bankrupt or unable to get credits to survive and survived only because the german government guanranteed the credits HAPAG got.

Captain Ted,

I see you are actively participating to this Forum and responding to more or less every subject, often without knowing what you are talking about. Here is another example here. CSAV was a PRIVATE company and therefore was not AT ALL supported by the Chilean government. The company was owned since 1988 by Ricardo Claro a successful Chilean entrepreneur controlling vineyards in the country and with interests in the media and industrial sectors. After Claro died in 2008, CSAV went through one of the worst crisis of its long history with a near-bankruptcy situation in 2009. From 2011 onwards, the company was gradually taken over by the Luksic Family, one of the richest families in Chile (and South America) with interests in the banking, mining, and food sector, through their holding company Quinenco. CSAV could remain afloat thanks to a series of successful capital increases, made possible ONLY with the support of its shareholders. The Chilean government had nothing to do here and actually was not very interested in the fate of its principal shipping line. I hope the above clarifies.

@ Charles

that sounds a little different from other sources. But be it as it be,,the main point is that CSAV was virtually bankrupt,, or do you want to tell me that that is not correct ?

H-sued,, UASC,,new to me,,but makes perfect sense, both companies with money and good management if one goes by that they never really struggled to stay afloat.
That merger H-Sued-UASC,, will have deep pockets. They could come on the idea and take over Hapag one day and if Hapag tries,,it will be really profitable for the H-Sued shareholders.
At least that I would think
