MSC Oscar showing 'Not under command' on AIS
« on: January 09, 2015, 07:31:39 PM »
1925 GMT, 09/01/2015. It may be nothing, but after loading at Pusan yesterday, she is now en route to Nakhodka, Russia for bunkers...but is currently shown on AIS as adrift & 'not under command' off Ko Island, Japan.

MSC Oscar is now underway again for Nakhodka at 12 knots.
Vessel's ETA @ Nakhodka has been increased from 1 day to 3 days plus.
Significance unknown.

Hi Rick,

The start of the the AE5/Albatross service has been slightly postponed, according to the 2M schedules.
The phase-in date of the MSC OSCAR has been delyaed by three days and so they have some extra time. They are taking the slow-boat.

The same applies to the phase-in dates of MUNKEBO and MAREN MAERSK.

Best regards,
Herbert

According to Busan New Port site, "MSC Oscar" did not load any containers there, although staying for approx. 24 hours. And, since Nakhodka is but a bunkering port in the schedule (is it?), I doubt that she went there with any load. Of course, since I was not there to see her in Busan (like I planned), this is pure speculation.

"Maren Maersk" is scheduled at Busan on January 19.

As for "not under command", seen it many times with vessels idling/waiting for berth etc.

Hi Ted, yes, I remember the teething problems with new ships only too well!

Hi Herbert, thank you for your valuable information - this may well explain Oscar's hesitation!
Regards, Rick

Hi Vlad, thanks for the info.
Vessel was delivered a week early. MSC's own, *original* date of delivery was forecast as 14/01/2015, according to a source.

Maybe she called at Busan on a celebratory visit? Although I cannot find any SK press reports of that.
I cannot imagine any other reason for being alongside a working quay, after delivery, for so long?!

Re: Nakhodka for bunkers only - for sure.
Regards, Rick
