looking for 1970s cargo ship Mirene
« on: January 05, 2015, 12:24:31 AM »
Hi all;

My mother worked for a small shipping company when I was small, during the 1970s.  The company - Avior Shipping - had two ships, the Mirene and the Melias.  I know the Melias sank in the Gulf of Mexico, around 1978 I believe.  But I'm curious what happened to the Mirene.  Can anyone provide some information on her fate?  Or maybe sources where I can search myself?

Thanks very much.
Larry

MIRENE ex-NAPILI ex-TOYU MARU
IMO 6829549

Capsized & sank 11.43N/74.45W, about 20nm NW of Santa Marta, Colombia on 29 Jun 1988 [Houston for Barranquilla, fertilizer base], while still operated by Avior Shipping Inc, New York.

Hi davidships;

Many thanks for the quick reply.  I knew someone on ShipSpotting would have the answer!
