Panama Canal turns 100
« on: August 14, 2014, 06:09:38 AM »
The Panama Canal turns 100 this week. Officially opened in 1914, the 77-kilometer channel joins the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean at the isthmus of Panama.

It made the world smaller, creating a shortcut for cargo ships that ply their trade from east and west.

I transited the canal more or less 30-40 times, I will miss it after retiring some time soon.
Not really looking fwd to transit the new canal anyhow,,,somehow the romantic/adventure to pass something "great" is gone by the widening and deepening.
NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!
