Like the photo
« on: July 08, 2014, 09:04:18 PM »
I missed a whole week on this place & I see some new features were added.  I'm a bit curious with the "Like / etc members likes this photo" - is it something as our own thing in the fashion of Facebook? Does it have something to do with Bookmarked photos? Or can it be somehow reflected in a list of liked photos by a certain member that anyone can view & sorta subscribe for new photos in that member's collection?

I mean, if it would be said that a photo was "bookmarked" etc times by *list of members* & in those members' profiles would be a list of bookmarked photos (visible to anyone, sorta like "My favourites"), then it's great!

Kind regards!

Btw, why the "This photo has been shown etc times since it was added to the site." was added if there's already a number of hits?

If I could ad my 2 cents to the discussion about "like"-ing a photo...If somebody likes my photo, I would very much prefer if that person leaves a comment in his/her own words then a Facebookish "like". I know it takes a quarter of a second to click on a like and few seconds to write a comment, but are we in such a rush  ::) that we can't spare those few second for kind/ personalized words? Just a thought...
Cheers  :)

My 2 cents says the same as yours, csaba. Besides, the 'Like' isn't clickable (in Firefox) so I have no clue how to use the feature (if I wanted to).

I think like csaba, it is much better to read a comment made by a menber in your photo, instead of seeing thousands of I like ot a finger up, which are anonimous or can be made for a single person hundreds of times in the day.

Tomi.

Would be nice if:

1) it would display usernames of those who liked the photo
2) an author would get a notification that someone liked his photo
3) each member could have a list/collection of the liked photos

4) Maybe Like & Bookmark should be presented as one?

Denis

But, Denis, that would just create another ego trip for certain members of this website. I'm just happy to share my photos, I don't care if they're liked or disliked. If people like a photo they're welcome to leave a comment anyway.

There are plenty of things on the website which need fixing, long before we mess around with silly 'like' functions.

Phil

only a chosen few get comments anyway, ie those within the tight circle on here :)
Everyone else goes unnoticed regardless of how great their photos are

I have to disagree with you Dennis. I've only been on here a few times over the last couple of years but my comments always seem to get posted.

Well, I've never been tempted to like a photo. It never worked with OS X 10.10 and Safari 8.02 and still isn't working ;D

Jens, maybe it has something to do with some Flash-related drivers or plugins that should be updated/installed?

Phil - good point actually.  Then why need to have Like option anyway?

Denis

I have no idea, Denis, though I don't think it's Flash, I've updated this one regularly and it's working fine on other websites...

Hi Jens,

If it works for some members but not for others, it may indicate that it could be an issue with your browser. Have you tried the "Like" function in different browser? Also, do you have JavaScript enabled in your browser? The easiest way to check if you do is to go to this link and it should tell you if you do or don't have it enabled.

Kind regards
Cody

Hi Cody,

thanks for the help. No problem with JavaScript here and (as Lars Brunkmann posted on July 12) with Firefox which I use occasionally it isn't working either...

Cheers,
Jens

We don't. It just appeared one day because the site owner wanted it.

I think adding the ability to "like" a photo is a meaningless feature that adds no value to the site.  I agree with the responses that say leaving a written comment is sufficient and represents a more real input.
