FPSO Schiehallion is now berthed in the Calandcanal in Rotterdam for quiet a while.
According to AIS she's being held in position from the beginning by three tugs.
What is the reason for this? This must cost a fortune?

Cheers Fred

Called the port authority but they will not give any information. Also agents are not very talkative. Such secrecy is unusual. I only know there were a lot of complaints from inhabitants of the opposite apartment buildings in Maassluis about the noise she produced. So probably the main engine and auxiliaries were switched off, necessitating the tugs to keep her under control in case of emergency. But that's about all Fred !

My fellow photographer Jan Oosterboer did some checking as well and found out that the number of fixed mooring points on board is not sufficient to berth safely. Hence the extra tugs to keep her in check. Why the harbour authority is so secretive about this is beyond me ....

Ciao,
Rob
