Shipspotting in Vancouver, British Columbia
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:40:34 AM »
Hi all. I will be in Vancouver in the coming days. I'd like to know the best spots to go to take pictures of ships. Could someone please  give me that information?

Thank you,

From the top of my head: 1 Canada Place downtown for cruisers; ferry to North Vancouver; N. Vancouver shore with its view of container terminal and Vancouver Harbour, Stanley Park northern sea promenade (under Lion's Gate Bridge) for vessels entering the harbour, also western part of the park coast for vessels at anchor.
A bit outside of Vancouver: Steveston Harbour, with the view of the mouth of Fraser River.
Also: a ferry ride to Vancouver Island, either from Horseshoe Bay, or from Tsawwassen ferry terminal, with the view of Delta Port.

Salut Steve

Having been to Vancouver a number of times, I can assure you that the best spots are Prospect Point at Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge (a short walk from the Point on either side). All ships in and out of the harbour have to go through the Narrows and you can see them from close quarters. Presently I'm uploading material from my latest trip to Vancouver on this site so you can have a look.
You'll definitely meet some of the local photographers at the Point and they'll be more than happy to allow you to tag along with them.

Have fun.

Marc

Steve,

If you have the opportunity to make it out there, New Brighton Park, near the Second Narrows (Hwy 1) Bridge, also provides some good photo opportunities, namely of vessels moored at Lynnterm Terminal and the Cargill and Viterra grain terminals.

Kind Regards,
Kyle

on a related note, Does anyone know of any BC based ship spotter blogs?
I have managed to cover almost the entire east coast, but have nothing out west.
