Federal Navigation's Federal Kivalina grounded in the St. Lawrence Seaway/St Lawrence River, New York, USA, in the 1,000 Islands area immediately north of the large bridge spanning the river. Grounding occurred on May 27 when the downbound ship lost its rudder, swung around and grounded almost on shore and just above the bridge.
