DAPHNE IMO: 5282627
« on: May 10, 2014, 01:50:41 PM »
It looks as though Classic International Cruises will seize to exist in just a few months as Princess Daphne was reported by Ricardo Martins in My Takkes that she has been sold to Indian interests for scrap in Alang. She is currently still in Souda, Greece but is due to depart for the final time on May 12th for Alang, India to be cut up for scrap. Her name has been shortened to DAPHNE forthe voyage with her port of registration being listed as St. Kitts & Nevis.
Is there anyone that can supply a final few pictures of her prior to her departure from Souda and get some pictures of her final departure?

Best Regards,
Damien

End of another Port Liner, can't be many left.  There was only 2 that I knew of and she was 1 of them.

It is infact to me a tragedy Glenn. She and Princess Danae, Now Lisboa of Portuscale Cruises were the only two left. Now only Lisboa remains. She had been in lay up for nearly 2 years so I'd sup[pose it should have been expected. However she will leave behind many happy memories for those who sailed on her.

Damien

That is really too sad, but as Damien says, it was to be expected unfortunately. She was the better looking of the two sisters. LISBOA (ex-PRINCESS DANAE) has some extra superstructure added in front of her bridge.

Let all make sure we sail on the LISBOA once she finally returns to service! At least we can keep that one going then!

Will she leave under her own power? Or is it a tow?

I guess she is still owned by the receiver?

DAPHNE (Princess Daphne) has left Souda under her own power currently making 10.8 knots with her destination listed as Port Said so it looks like Alang is her graveyard. She reported to have slipped her lines at 07:09 and departed Souda before performing a series of maneuvers off the entrance to Souda harbour and sailing finally for Port Said. If anyone can get pics of her when she gets to Port Said that would be great.

Damien

Oh no. I really didn't know she was to be scrapped. I thought she would join her sister with Portuscale. This is depressing news, and she will be missed.

Shaun
You obviously did not look at the photos that I recently posted of Princess Daphne. I did so as a 'final nostalgic look'.

Very nice Clive.
This is truly very sad. We lost my favourite passenger ship, ocean countess (formerly Cunard Countess) last year. She was a very special ship, but she does not have restaurants and shops and bowling alleys and what not shoved into each square metre, which is what the holiday maker wants. But we must be grateful to Portuscale for acquiring the majority of Classic's fleet. The ships look muck better in their livery.
I just wish that Daphne could have followed her sister.

PRINCESS DAPHNE did not belong to any kind of receivership. She was ownwd by Golden Laurel Maritime Inc (2008-2014),and managed by Arcalia Shipping / Classic International Cruises. After an agreement between the bank Montepio Geral (lisbon) and Classic International Cruises (the two sons of Georgios Potamianos, Alex and Emilios Potamianos)they retained ownership of this ship and got from the got 3 million euros in cash. Unfortunately for a number of reasons I am not going to specify here, they were unable to return this fine ship to service, so she has just been sold to breakers.
