I read the yesterday an article, that it is virtually a take over and not a merger
because afterwards the Hapag shareholders holding 66 $ of the merged companies.
Guess now Hapag will try to take over Hamburg-Sued. That could make them or break them (They will not break because the German Gov will always protect the holy grail of german shipping, God knows why )
Until now, everytime Hapag bought something or took something over the outcome was not good,,neither for the taken over nor for Hapag.
NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!

>> Guess now Hapag will try to take over Hamburg-Sued.

^^ You appear to have no idea what you are talking about. HL is in no position to take over HS. If anything, it would be the other way around, as HS is much stronger than HL financially. Either way, it won't happen. However: HS said they still considered joining a merged HL/CSAV as a partner.

>> Until now, everytime Hapag bought something or took something over the outcome was not good

^^In what respect? The CP takeover was successful and it turned HL into the world's 5th largest ocean carrier with a very strong position on the Atlantic and in a number of key trades. In today's alliance environment (P3 / CKYHE / G6) - take a guess, where a standalone CP Ships would be today: If not very nearly dead, then very actually dead.

>> the German Gov will always protect the holy grail of german shipping

^^Care to elaborate or is this just an empty phrase?

Following their merger with CSAV, the largest shareholder of Hapag Lloyd, Klaus-Michael Kuehne has stated that he would like to see another merger.

The names of NOL (parent company of APL) and Hamburg Sud have been mentioned.

@ Alan

of course they want,,the problem for them is that both HS and NOL are finanicial better managed than HAPAG (skirted a few times on the edge) and CASV ( which was bankrupt) Which would mean for any merger candidate that they would be the lead in a merger and that,s exactly what HAPAG does not want.
