Hi all,

just lately I came across a gem built by my favorite shipyard, J. J. Sietas here at Hamburg:

Merita (IMO 5071688), built by Sietas in 1938 and according to Equasis still in service, flag and call sign currently unknown.
Last known flag was Finland, call sign LMXA...

First name Julia, 1948 Tempo, 1956 Hansa, 1961 Christian, 1965 Lisa, and possibly since 1973 Merita.
Gross tonnage 296, L/B/D (M) 41,46 / 6,79 / 3,25

Can anyone provide some more info about her (especially her current position) or is there even a photo around somewhere?

Kind regards,
Jens

Hello Jens,
but I think callsign from Finland starts with O, not with L

A callsign starting with L can be Norwegian.

Jürgen and Dave, thanks for your help:-)

Jürgen, regarding the call sign... I think the website where I found the info has given the last known call sign under Norwegian ownership.
If I understand it correctly she was was then sold to Finish ownership, was reflagged to Finland, but they never knew the new Finish call sign.
(This is just a guess, though).

But admittedly the way I wrote it in my request is confusing. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

All the best,
Jens

Some info in this thread (especially this Page 4): http://www.stp-norway.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2957&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30

Had been laid up at Bjørsvik: http://goo.gl/maps/bJZyr
2004 reported sold to Fiji owner, the same unknown one that bought HILVAG (IMO 5373165), but had generator problem. At Stamnes: http://goo.gl/maps/gflEB
2004 towed to Mastrevik(?) for pre-delivery work
8/2006 & 12/2007 at Kollevåg, W coast of Askøy: http://goo.gl/maps/y0L4Y (green arrow - not same vessel there in image or street view)
10/2008 at Sagvåg, with no wheelhouse (burnt out?), moored at the former ferry berth at http://goo.gl/maps/KHKb0
but no longer there in Google Streetview dated 10/2010

So where now?

Hi davidships,

thanks a lot for your info and investigation. Just where do you find websites like tsp-norway.com??? (Maybe I shouldn't search Google only for websites in German or English Roll Eyes

As to her whereabouts... sadly I was just given the info that she was broken up in November 2008 at Stord, hence the demolished wheelhouse Sad

Kind regards
Jens
