mv Hansa Brandenburg containership
« on: November 29, 2013, 11:55:54 PM »
Hello,

Does anyone know what happened to the Hansa Brandenburg? The last I heard was she was on fire and adrift in the Indian Ocean way back in July.

Regards,

Hi Mattyboy,

the latest news I could find is that NGO suspected on October 3 that she might be sold for demolition to Alang.
See http://www.shipbreakingplatform.org/category/news/

But I couldn't find any website which definitely gives her status as "dead". Equasis still says "in casualty or repairing".
But Equasis also says that her classification with Germanischer Lloyd is withdrawn, reason "sold for recycling (scrap)".

Cheers,
Jens

hi jens
if the insurance was good and sold it as scrap,, good for all involded,,less capacity on the market and owner did not really loose, might be even glad that the ship is gone in todays market
NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!

Hi Theo,
I bet you're right about that, but I also think that in view of environmental issues the owner again chose the easiest way... :o
