I am not sure where your information sources come from but Dudman has been trading here in Shoreham certainly from April 2013 onwards and are not in liquidation as you state, but were in Administration in early 2013. Throughout 2013 there has been a number of Dredgers and Coasters that have berthed at their two wharves in Shoreham discharging Marine Aggregates and stone the latter from their Quarry in Porthoustock. December 2013 saw AIS log 4 coasters (discharging stone) and 1 Dredger (Marine Aggregates). Recently (on 15 Jan 2014) MV Martin discharged a load of stone from the abovementioned quarry. November 2013 saw AIS log 3 dredgers and 2 coasters.
Basically, Dudman had financial problems and to cut a long story short was put in Administration in January 2013.
Dudmans sourced the cargoes for Independent Shipping, the owners of Torrent, Independent, Shoreham, Cementina and Thames, these ships laid idle at their then ports of call in January 2013. Thames and Independent at Shoreham, Shoreham at Santandar, Torrent at Rye and Cementina at Howden dyke, where they were then arrested by the Admiralty Marshal for non payment of debts: fuel crews wages etc.
March/April 2013 saw Cementina released from arrest and sailed to Ghent. Thames was also released from arrest and sailed from Shoreham with a new crew to Ghent. Both ships were seen berthed in early September 2013, at the Van Hyghen Recycling wharf, Ghent awaiting demolition.
In monitoring AIS broadcasts from Shoreham which was under arrest at Santandar, these transmissions ceased in late December 2013, (IIRC 19/20/21) and the latest intelligence is that she is awaiting demolition. Thus leaves Independent at Shoreham which was moved from one of the Dudman wharves in March 2013 to the Outer Lay By. Torrent is at Rye, both still under arrest. It has been a year now since these arrests has been made and it is likely that the Admiralty Marshal will order the sale/demolition of these ships as their debts remain unpaid.
Interestingly an Internet based auction organised by the Administrators, of all the Dudman plant and equipment at all of their sites, with all bids was scheduled to end in early March 2013. The auction was pulled 3 days before closing date, and none of these assets were sold, which implies that other negotiations were done to get Dudman back working again.
Send me a PM for a more fuller version of the story!
