Ships holding near Malta
« on: October 31, 2013, 10:13:17 AM »
Hi all

I wonder if someone here can help me out with this. I have been following ships for a while now and have noticed that many ships can often be found anchored just to the east of Malta. I'm just wondering why this is such a populat place for ships to be anchored? I assume it has somethng to do with calm waters? perhaps someone can explain in detail.

Many thanks for your help

Dale

Dale,

Due to it's geographic location and relatively calm water it's an ideal location for ships to await orders.

I think the sea bed rises significantly in that area ( between Valletta and Marsaxlokk )so its easy for the vessels to drop anchor safely.
