Video: 4 tugs to bring in Thalassa Hellas on her 1st call
« on: October 27, 2013, 05:31:38 PM »
Svitzer's entire Felixstowe fleet of tugs turned out to bring Evergreen Line's first 13,806 TEU container ship, Thalassa Hellas, for her 1st Felixstowe call on the blowy morning of 27th October 2013.

Thalassa Hellas will replace Ever Legion on this rotation . .

It's interesting to note that Thalassa Hellas and subsequent sisterships have not been branded with Evergreen's logo and traditional "Ever" names. Very unusual considering these ships are on long charter and are Evergreen's flagship vessels. I can't imagine Maersk or MSC taking on such vessels straight from the shipyard without giving them the corporate brand.

According to the internet, Thalassa Hellas is chartered from Enesel SA who have 10 vessels on order, all of 13806 teu, for charter to Evergreen.  Following the Thalassa Hellas are Thalassa Patris (Due FXT 04.01.14), Thalassa Pistis (Due FXT 01.03.14, and Thalassa Elpida (No schedules yet).

That's correct Alan. Enesel S.A. is the Pireaus trading arm of London-Greek shipowner N.S. Lemos & Co. Ltd. Lemos has a long history in tanker and dry/tramp shipping but containerships are a more recent venture. The 13,000 teu ships are on 10 year charters to Evergreen, an operator which has tradionally owned all of it's larger ships rather than gone out to the charter market. Perhaps the combined traditions of both companies has contributed to the unusual scenario of these ships retaining their owner's livery and name style, rather than that of the operator.

Incidentally, the remaining ships in the series will be named, respectively:

Thalassa Eldida
Thalassa Avra
Thalassa Niki
Thalassa Mana
Thalassa Tyhi
Thalassa Doxa
Thalassa Axia
