C. Concordia - so what's going on now??
« on: September 24, 2013, 09:15:10 PM »
There's been mostly silence about her since the parbuckling was completed.  Are they searching the ship for the last two bodies?  Getting ready to put the sponsons on the other side?  or is everything on hold now, while the trial of the captain proceeds?

I assume the salvors are still eager to complete the recovery/removal before winter weather settles in...

It's been widely reported that she will slowly be refloated and patched up ready to be towed away to an, as yet, undisclosed location. This process is not going to happen overnight. It is expected to be completed by next spring.

Yesterday they sterted the search for the two missing bodies...anyway you can imagine...it's just a search for legal purposes...after one and half year in the water it could be very difficult and very long to search all the ship which now is more in the water than before...so I think that by the time they will go ahead with the preparation and refloating tentatives they will declare something that they presume the bodies are not recoverable and for "safety reasons" they will authorize the demoltion of the ship somewhere, not necessarily in Italy. Here there is a lot of rumors about which destination will be the choosen one...for sure the fact that the "draft" of the Costa Concordia will be in the range of 16-18 meters is narrowing the capability to move and send it in a port also able to perform the scrap and recycle operations...

Officials in Italy have now said that human remains have been found in the ship.
Remains were also found between the ship and the rocks.

Hi Jens

I can not see in any way they will tow the wreck or even transport by semi submercible all the way to Denmark.

Still does not explain what has happened to the two barges that were on site
