Albert B - Stemat push tug.
« on: July 16, 2013, 07:25:36 PM »
I'm new to ship modelling.  The first thing I built was a waterline flat top barge to carry a crane shown below

I then decided to build a push tug to go with it for a large diorama  we're planning at a model show,  dedicated to heavy haulage cranes and plant. I wanted to include a nautical dimension to the show - hence these models.

Cutting the first parts from styrene.

Checking the scale is correct with a 1/50 man.

Cutting both sides of the wheelhouse

The lower part of the structure

Cardboard model upside down with styrene part on top to check proportions.

Taking shape

Rear of the vessel.

Building rails from welding rod.

Working out the height of the cabin in raised position

Building the radar and communication equipment.

Making the crane from Tekno pieces. Tekno make truck models. I built the hydraulic ram from styrene tube.

Painting the deck

Beginning to come together.

I'll try to keep this updated.
