Funny looking pusher tug
« on: June 21, 2013, 01:17:49 PM »
I've seen various designs of pusher tugs on site - boring, ugly, weird, funny, etc, including the "long-neck" tugs, but this... THIS...  beats them all, I think!  ;D

Oh my! That's really something else. :D Designed by a Baywatch-fan, I shouldn't wonder.
Eventhough it looks like it's going to tip over by the first gust of wind, I think it's actually quite stable.
Wonder if they use it for duck hunting as well :D

Thanks for sharing these, Denis!
Lars

Haha, well said, Lars! The first thing that came on mind - perhaps this is the only ship permanent height of which exceeds it's length.

Denis

Just the bare necessities; a place to put the engines below and somewhere to steer from. What else do you really need? ;D

Good find Denis.

I guess it's different tools for different jobs.

I was bemused at finding the MOIN on Shipspotting and Marinetraffic the other day.
The wheel house can raise up and down.

Although that MOIN looks like a nice tug when her wheelhouse is lowered, but man, what a simple & cleaver way of rising it - never seen such before!  ;D  All mostly have a telescopic column.

I've seen once someone uploaded a photo of some tug (can't remember it's name), also with an interesting way of lowering/raising the bridge.  It looked like this:

This may be the other one you are talking about. They are both here in Australia in the state of WA.

Love the first example . . imagine the builders kept putting bigger engines in, until it finally stayed upright!
