Hi,

Understand that OLA ESMERALDA is still at Santo Domingo embroiled in some sort of dispute. She's still transmitting an AIS signal too.

Hope this helps

Hi all,

I'm just trying to update the records of ships I've taken photos of.

I'm stuck with Ola Esmeralda.

Equasis still gives her status as "to be broken up". MarineTraffic says last position received 13.06.2013 at Santo Domingo where she was supposed to be broken up.

Then I found this link where she was offered for sale as a scrap vessel while she was still at Santo Domingo
http://www.shiplink.info/contents1.asp?refno=40864

Now does someone now if she's still at Santo Domingo awaiting her fate, or has she finally been scrapped there or has she been sold once more and was scrapped elsewhere?

Thanks,
Jens

She was finally scrapped at Santo Domingo last year, Jens.

Hi,

Sorry, I have no current news about the OLA ESMERALDA, but some news about the PALM BEACH PRINCESS. The ship is still located at a scrap yard in Santo Domingo and is already partial demolished.
A Google Earth screenshot with date of Februar 2, 2015 shows the ship still at the scrapp yard.

Kind  Regards, wogo

very nice (but sad) info Wogo! I would appear that there is only one dock, so my assumption is that the scrapping of the PALM BEACH PRINCESS started late last year, after they were done with the OLA ESMERALDA.

Brgds.

Hi,
here a photo of the PALM BEACH PRINCESS ex VIKING PRINCESS ex ILMATAR at the pier of the scrap yard in Santo Domingo. For me it is a very sad view because between 1975 and 1982 I regularly was aboard the ILMATAR, sometimes as a passenger and often as a crew member.

Kind regards, wogo

Hi,
since many years I am very interested in "my old ship" ILMATAR and her fate. At the moment I made a film with the title "MS ILMATAR  -Die Geschichte eines Schiffes- 1964-2014". Therefore I have made an intensive research. On this way I have received many photos and other informations and movies all over the world and also in Santo Domingo.

Kind regards, wogo
